Who Cares What Other People Think!

I have a confession to make.  I absolutely love to collect quotes.  I have them saved in my One Note and in my Pinterest account.  There are thousands of quotes that people save and re-pin on Pinterest every single day.  Quotes are used in so many ways.  They may be used for motivation, inspiration, reflection and as a way to help people move forward in their lives.  Have you heard a quote as you are going throughout your day that really strikes you as applying to you or a situation in your life?

Recently one of the quotes that really struck me was from Eleanor Roosevelt that states “You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how much they seldom do.”   If you knew that the people you interact with are not even thinking about you, what does that do for you?  You can do what you think is right and make your own decisions!  I see it as completely empowering and so freeing.  Let me repeat…They are not thinking about you!!!  They are most likely thinking about themselves and what you think about them!  How great is this?  You can stop worrying about what they think!

Why do people care what others think anyway?  There are many people who look for external validation from others.  They want approval before they move forward, especially when they are trying to do something new.  Part of this may come from them doubting their abilities, low self-confidence, low self-esteem or they just struggle to make decisions.   Eleanor Roosevelt said, ” No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”  Why give other people power over you and let them have the ability to make you feel bad about yourself?  They don’t know your situation.  Why would you let them make you feel small and unimportant?

Don’t worry about what others think.  If you are struggling with putting yourself out there, take small steps.  Another quote to help you reflect on this is, “What people think about you is not important, what you think of yourself means everything.”  Start trusting your gut, taking risks, making decisions and realize that you know exactly what to do.   As your confidence grows you will begin making bigger decisions and what other people think does not even enter into your thought process anymore.

Many of my clients have these same issues and as they are moving past this way of thinking they are seeing how amazing their lives can be.  I believe they are coming to me for help because I have been through this myself.  This is why I am so passionate about helping them move past it.  It such a waste of your gifts and your talents to hold yourself back from all that you could potentially achieve in your life and career.   If any of these situations are happening in your life and you are looking for help to move past it, please set up a time to meet with me.  Here is the link to set up an appointment. http://susanmbarber.com/schedule-an-appointment/
