When you go in for an interview, your goal is to prove to the person interviewing you that they should hire you, right? You will most likely go into an interview armed with persuasive answers and examples to verbally share what you have already done that will translate into being able to do this job for them. What if you found a way to show them what you could do for them? Here are some ideas:
- Bring a portfolio of your work that demonstrates examples of what you have already done in past roles. Show them how you took a problem and solved it by building a dashboard, streamlining a process change or by creating a new product that solves an issue.
- Identify a problem that the company may have and show them how you would solve it. This one may require some research or you can learn something from the recruiter that you can use to build on. Assess the risk so you don’t say something to offend them, but it is a great way to demonstrate your capabilities.
- Identify and share a new option or alternative to an in-place solution that would make it even better. Show how you are able to think out of the box to demonstrate your innovative and strategic side.
There is an old saying that says “you have to do the job before you can get the job” Leveraging these suggestions can help you demonstrate that you have the “right” skills to do this job. If you really want the job, you need to do something different to stand out from everyone else. Showing what you can do in an interview can go along way in helping you land that new job!
