Do you ever think….if I could just get that promotion or lose weight or have more money in the bank, then things in my life will be great. You may be telling yourself that having those things would make everything right in your world and then you can be happy. Accomplishing those things takes a lot of work. As much as everyone wishes they could make them happen immediately, they can take months or years before you accomplish the goal. This is when people lose their motivation and give up.
What if we stop thinking about it as a big change that you have to make and start thinking about breaking the big goal up into small changes that you do every day instead? In our Powerful Leadership mastermind group we talked about the book called “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy. His premise is that you need to do three things in order to see change occur:
- Make small changes every day that may seem insignificant, but can compound over time into greater change in your life.
- Measure these changes so you can see your progress and be motivated by them.
- Be 100% responsible for everything that happens to you and in your situation.
If you think about the change that you want and you break it down into small changes that ultimately get you to your goal, would you do them? What if you begin today with one of those changes? It is just a small change, so you don’t have to wait for the perfect time to start, right? When you begin to make progress, you get more motivated and excited by it. Imagine how much change could occur over the next 6 months or a year from now. Change occurs with the little choices that you make each and every day. So what choice will you make?
