Do you remember the last opportunity you had to do something that pushed you out of your comfort zone? Some examples may be presenting in front of a group, attending a networking event or going in for a job interview. Some of what drives the nervousness or anxiety is the mindset of a past situation showing up. Did you have a situation in the past that didn’t go as well as you had hoped? Is that what is showing up now placing doubt into your mind? Many times it is the past replaying in our head over and over that makes us doubt our ability to have success in the current situation.
Your brain is powerful and will use whatever method is available to keep you safe even if that means using things from the past as a way to create doubt for you. This is an opportunity to stay focused on what you want to achieve instead. Recognize that this is fear coming into play for you and you can make the choice to do this new thing anyway. Think of 5 positive things that could happen instead of the things that are showing up as doubts. When you focus on the positive things, your brain can’t focus on the fear anymore.
Stay focused on the positive outcomes that you want instead of the doubts that you are having. Think about the amazing people that you could meet and how they would feel when they hear about the great things that you are working on. If you don’t get out of your comfort zone then you are staying in your own status quo. You aren’t growing and learning new things for yourself. What is worse though is that you have so many valuable things to share and that won’t happen if you don’t get out there. Don’t let self-doubts or past situations limit what is possible for yourself!
“There are no limits to what you can accomplish, except the
limits that you place on your own thinking.”
– Brian Tracy
