When you have worked somewhere for a long time, it becomes difficult to leave. You are tied to the people that you work with, you know how everything works, it is comfortable and it has become a part of how others see you and how you identify yourself. Your job has become a part of who you are and it may feel like you are only known as the person who works at that company or has a certain role. Leaving all of that behind to go do something else can be scary, especially when there are situations that happen and you are not choosing to leave on your own.
Anyone who has been through a difficult change like this knows that it isn’t easy. It may take some time to process all that has happened. In order to move forward, you will need to accept that the situation has changed, the identity that you had will be different going forward and most importantly that you will be okay. Just remember that you are not defined by one company, one role or one situation. Take the opportunity to accept the new you, be around people who are supportive and be excited about what happens next for you!
