Have you experienced job dissatisfaction? I think we can safely say that it has happened for all of us at some point throughout our careers. When this occurs, the natural thought process is that you should start to look for another role so you can be engaged again. What if you could do that with your current role instead?
Simon Sinek published an article on Getting a Better Job which suggests that a mindset change could make all the difference in how you view your current role. He highlights two areas of focus where this shift can occur:
- Help Others
- “If we wish to feel more engaged, fulfilled and happy at work, we must make it our obsession to help the people around us feel more engaged, fulfilled and happy in their jobs.”
- How you show up for other people can also make all the difference for you as the leader of a team.
- Show Up To Serve
- “Falling back in love with our work is about shifting our mindset from using our jobs to serve ourselves, to using our jobs to serve others.”
- Servant leadership means that you are putting your team first and giving them the opportunity to shine in order to reach their full potential. This helps the whole organization succeed, not just one person.
Simon Sinek says “We all have the opportunity to be the leader we wish we had.” Learn from the good and the bad leaders that you have had throughout your career. What kind of leader do you want to be? When you are feeling disengaged, try shifting your mindset to others and away from yourself. See what type of impact this new thinking can have on you and those around you. You might just find that you are loving your job again!
