Many people set up new resolutions at the beginning of the year. How many of you have chosen to lose weight or exercising more as your resolution? Companies who have these products and services know this fact and show commercials non-stop in January and February for that very reason.
Do you have other resolutions focused on things you want to change in your career, life or leadership? What if you don’t think about your resolutions as something that you have to do, but focus on them in a different way instead?
I came across this article called “On Leadership: ‘Being’ versus ‘doing’ resolutions” by Pam Solberg-Tapper. A quote from the article talks about resolutions in this way: “This year, change things up and commit to a character-driven resolution. Think about who you want to “be” versus what you want to “do.” This elevated mindset will help you become the best version of yourself as a leader.”
This is a more aspirational way to look at your resolutions and the outcomes that you want. What things will you do every day to reach those outcomes? Small changes every day focused on your outcomes are what will get you there. It is a positive way to achieve the version of yourself that you want to be through the actions you do every day.
