Do you remember when you were younger and someone asked what you wanted to be when you grew up? At that point in your life you would have probably told the person that you wanted to be a teacher, fireman, a doctor or a job like one of your parents. As you grew up you realized that there were so many more choices out there for jobs. Maybe you chose a major in college that would get you a job like a software engineer, bio-chemist or a physical therapist. When you are just getting started you are making a decision that will set you on a course for the rest of your life.
So what happens as you get older and wiser? You may decide that the career path that you chose at the beginning of your career isn’t really what you want anymore. Do you stay or make a change? The thought of changing to a new career seems like it would be so hard to do and there is no guarantee that it would work out. It is scary and overwhelming for people to even consider making a change because now they have responsibilities and bills to pay. Most people just ride it out….they choose to stay and be miserable. They are so afraid of taking the risk that they do nothing. Wouldn’t it be worth it to at least try something different if it would make you happier?
It all starts with the way that you think about it. What is the one thing that you always wanted to do and would do if you had no limitations holding you back? What if you started thinking about it and started to see the possibility of that coming true? What are some ways that you could possibly make it happen? Who could you get to help you? What small actions could you take to move you in that direction?
Are you seeing what is possible? Just making small steps in a new direction starts to really change the story in your head. You start to believe that it’s possible and that passion for what you want makes others believe it as well. The people who support you will help you get there if you just ask them. Together you move forward to achieve the vision and you don’t let anything get in the way. Imagine what this new life could look like for you and how much happier you would be?
