Now is Not the Time to Give Up

Every day we all face issues with something that doesn’t work as designed and it gets really frustrating.  In my house, if someone can’t print something or the laptop doesn’t work right, you would think the world was ending.  My family has no patience when it comes to technology.  When it doesn’t work right, they just want to quit or have me fix it.
I have always pushed through when things with technology doesn’t work.  I remember wanting to add a new drive to my first computer many years ago.  I had never done it before and I was determined to figure it out.  It was about 2am before I got it all working again, but I was so excited that I made it work.  This type of thing may not be for everyone, but I am guessing you all have had something that you struggled with and how great you felt once you found the solution.
Why do some people keep moving forward while others quit?  What does it take to keep moving forward instead of giving up?  My belief is that it comes down to the mindset that you have.  Here are some questions to ask yourself:
  • Do you believe that you have explored all the options that are available to you?
  • Do you really believe that it is possible for you to solve the issue and you have the motivation to make it happen?
  • Do you believe that quitting isn’t an option and that you will figure it out no matter what issues show up?
  • Do you believe in yourself and the success that you have had before? Can leverage your experience in this situation too?
  • Do you believe that there are people that could help you and together you will solve the issue?
If you believe that what you are trying to do is possible, then it becomes possible.  Here is another example where this applies.  I haven’t run a full marathon before, but many of those that have, talk about the wall that they hit when it comes to mile 21 or 22.  They only have a few more miles to run, but it seems like a huge obstacle after they have already run that far. They are exhausted and it is no longer a physical challenge at that point, but a mental one. It comes down to the mindset that they have and believing that they can do it. The next time you face a challenge. Read through the above questions and ask yourself if you have a mindset of doubt or possibility?
