Progress Over Perfection: How Taking Imperfect Action Can Lead to Success

Are you ready to overcome perfectionism and get things done?

I was a perfectionist for so long. I was even proud of myself for being a perfectionist which is hard to imagine now. I am sure that I made everyone else around me feel that they needed to be that way too.

I realized that those expectations weren’t good for me and it definitely wasn’t good to place those expectations on my team. I had to change the way that I looked at the things that challenged or scared me and see them as experiments instead.

I thought that being perfect was what made me better and helped me accomplish things in the best way. What it did was it moved me into a place of procrastination instead. It prevented me from trying things that I wasn’t sure that I could do and I hesitated to start things that I didn’t know how to do.

Thinking about new things as experiments freed me up to new possibilities. I could take small actions on something I didn’t know how to do or never attempted before. The important part of this action was that I would learn a lesson from what I tried or make a shift to try something else.

Taking imperfect action moved me out of a perfectionism mindset. It gave me the confidence to make progress when I wouldn’t have even tried before.

Where could you take imperfect action?
